Barnabas – August 25, 2024

Pastor Jeremy Mayol

Acts 13:1-3 (CSB)
1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off.

Why Should I Serve?
1. Serving others is a reflection of the work God is doing in you.
Acts 13:2a (CSB)
2a As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said…
Mark 10:45 (CSB)
45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

2. The Holy Spirit has picked a place and people for you to serve.
Acts 13:2b (CSB)
2b…the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
1 Peter 4:10-11 (CSB)
10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God.11 If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

3. Serving others might be the missing piece from their story. God may use your service to be a missing piece for someone’s story.
Acts 13:3 (CSB)
3 Then after they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off.
Galatians 5:13-14 (CSB)
13 For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself
