God’s Delegated Covering – June 12, 2024

Pastor Renato Vasquez

It is only under God’s authority that we experience his protection and blessings

Romans 13:1–2(NKJV)

1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

1. All Authority is appointed by God

  • When we oppose God’s delegated authority, we oppose God Himself
  • Good people can go through harsh treatment by authority, and it is not an accident or the plan of the devil.

2. We are exhorted to recognize the authority of God vested in the man rather than the man himself.

Ephesians 6:5-8(MSG)

5-8 Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ. Don’t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ’s servants doing what God wants you to do. And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you’re really serving God. Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless of whether you are slave or free.

1 Peter 2:13-17(NCV)

13 For the Lord’s sake, yield to the people who have authority in this world: the king, who is the highest authority, 14 and the leaders who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. 15 It is God’s desire that by doing good you should stop foolish people from saying stupid things about you. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Live as servants of God. 17 Show respect for all people: Love the brothers and sisters of God’s family, respect God, honor the king.

  • It pleases God when we choose to honor the position of authority that HE has delegated despite the shortcomings of those who hold the position

3. Unconditional submission but NOT unconditional obedience

Daniel 3:16-18(NLT)

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

  • It pleases God when we demonstrate a submissive attitude that chooses to obey HIM.

1 Peter 3:1-2(NLT)

In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over 2 by observing your pure and reverent lives.
