Grow Night Class Preview – January 6, 2025
Pastor Mandi Kanei
The importance of being students of God’s Word:
1. Scripture grounds us in our faith
- Romans 10:17 (CSB): “17 Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
2. God orchestrated the composition of scripture to equip us
- 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (CSB): “16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
3. Scripture protects us from falling into wrong doctrine and sin
- 2 Peter 3:17-18 (CSB): “17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”
How all our classes work:
- Grow Night Classes use the Bible as our primary source
- Grow Night Classes require of us to study God’s Word on its own terms and in its original context
- Grow Night Classes seek to give us tools and resources to be able to study God’s Word and develop our theology, both as individuals and as collective believers
We will do things like:
- Read God’s Word
- Conduct research using reputable online resources, physical books and commentaries
- Conduct word studies
- Engage in discussions as classes and/or table groups
- Contemplate God’s Word on our own using optional homework resources
Classes:
- How to Study the Bible
- In this class we will learn the inductive method, as a tool to help us study scripture. We will practice this method using Luke 2:8-14. We recommend you start by taking this course as a prerequisite, prior to taking any of our other classes.

- In this class we will learn about the trinity, look at the various ways that the Scriptures depict the Holy Spirit; so that we can better understand and partner with the Holy Spirit today!
- Rooted Discipleship
- In this class we will use scripture to inform how and why we practice our Christianity. Studying topics such as salvation, baptism, the Church, serving and more. We will utilize Pastor Jeremy’s book The Rooted Disciple as our guide through these topics. This class is ideal for those who have questions about faith, are new to their faith, who have recently switched denominations, or who are returning to faith after having stepped away.
