Live as Usual – November 10, 2024

Pastor Jeremy Mayol

Acts 17:1-9 (CSB)
1 After they passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. 2 As usual, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and rise from the dead: “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah.” 4 Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, including a large number of God-fearing Greeks, as well as a number of the leading women. 5 But the Jews became jealous, and they brought together some wicked men from the marketplace, formed a mob, and started a riot in the city. Attacking Jason’s house, they searched for them to bring them out to the public assembly. 6 When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers
before the city officials, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too, 7 and Jason has welcomed them. They are all acting contrary to Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king — Jesus.” 8 The crowd and city officials who heard these things were upset. 9 After taking a security bond from Jason and the others, they released them.

Acts 14:1 (CSB)
1 In Iconium they entered the Jewish synagogue, as usual, and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.

The Power of Consistency over Intensity in Your Life:

1. Intensity delivers a moment; consistency develops a habit.

1 Corinthians 15:58 (CSB)
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Galatians 6:9 (CSB)
9 Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.

2. Intensity makes us feel good; consistency makes us better.

Malachi 3:6 (CSB)
6 I, the Lord, have not changed…
Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)
1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

3. Intensity helps for a season; consistency shapes a lifetime.

Hebrews 13:8 (CSB)
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Psalm 102:27 (CSB)
27 But you are the same, and your years will never end.
John 15:4 (ESV)
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides
in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
Luke 4:14-16 (CSB)
14 Then Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread throughout the entire vicinity. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, being praised by everyone. 16 He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. As usual, he entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read.
Luke 22:39 (CSB)
39 He went out and made his way as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.
