70 X 7 Part 2: Forgive Yourself – September 11, 2024

Pastor Jim Bryant

Matthew 18:21-22 NLV

“Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him, up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I tell you, not seven times but seventy times seven!

Ephesians 4:32 TLB

“…be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you…”

Reasons why you need to forgive yourself:

1. It’s what God wants you to do.

Isaiah 1:18 NLT

“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.”

2. It’s what the devil U.

John 8:44 ESV

“…When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

3. Forgiving yourself will give you peace, set you free from your past, and help you to become a better person.

John 8:32 NIV

“…You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT

“…Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.”

4. Forgiving yourself will improve your physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Matthew 26:31 GNT

“This very night all of you will run away and leave me…”

Matthew 26:33-35 GNT

Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “I will never leave you, even though all the rest do!” Jesus said to Peter, “I tell you that before the rooster crows tonight, you will say three times that you do not know me.” Peter answered, “I will never say that, even if I have to die with you!”

Matthew 26:56 GNT

…all the disciples left him and ran away.

Matthew 26:58 GNT

…Peter followed from a distance.

Matthew 26:69-75 TLB

…Peter was sitting in the courtyard, a girl came over and said to him, “You were with Jesus, for both of you are from Galilee.” But Peter denied it loudly. “I don’t even know what you are talking about,” he angrily declared. Later, out by the gate, another girl noticed him and said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus—from Nazareth.” Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath. “I don’t even know the man,” he said. But after a while the men who had been standing there came over to him and said, “We know you are one of his disciples, for we can tell by your Galilean accent.” Peter began to curse and swear. “I don’t even know the man,” he said. And immediately the cock crowed. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said, “Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went away, crying bitterly.

Mark 16:6 NASB

“He has risen; He is not here.”

Mark 16:7 NASB

”Go tell His disciples…and Peter… He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him…”

Acts 3:19 NIV

…Repent…and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out…

Two types of Guilt most of us struggle with: Pseudo-Guilt and True Guilt.

1. Pseudo-guilt is false guilt that is unfounded and has nothing to do with sin.

Romans 8:1 NIV

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…

2. True Guilt, otherwise known as conviction, is a result of our sin against God.

1 John 1:9 ESV

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
