PART 3: LIVE BY FAITH NOT BY SIGHT – July 17, 2024

Pastor Ken Hart

I HAVE DECIDED TO LIVE BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

7 For we live by faith, not by sight.

WHAT DOES A FAITH JOURNEY LOOK LIKE?

1. A FAITH JOURNEY SOMETIMES BEGINS WITH A DIFFICULT CHALLENGE

Matthew 15:21-22 (NIV)

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

2. A FAITH JOURNEY OFTEN GETS WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER

Matthew 15:23-24 (NIV)

23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

James 1:2-4 (NIV)

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

3. A PERSISTENT FAITH IS ALWAYS REWARDED BY GOD

Matthew 15:25-28 (NIV)

25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. 26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” 27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LIVE BY FAITH? IN THIS SEASON I AM GOING TO…

  1. Believe God when I don’t see it
  2. Obeying God when I don’t understand it
  3. Give to God when I don’t have it
  4. Persist with God when I don’t feel it
  5. Thank God before I receive it
  6. Trust God even if I don’t get it
