The Power of Pentecost

Acts 1:4 (NLT)

Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before.

Acts 1:8 (NLT)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 2:1 (NKJV)

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Exodus 23:16a (NLT)

Second, celebrate the Festival of Harvest, when you bring me the first crops of your harvest.

1. Pentecost is connected to gratitude and generosity.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Luke 6:38a (NKJV)

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over…

2. Unity is created as we tune our hearts to Jesus.

Psalm 125:4 (NLT)

O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you.

Acts 2:2 (NKJV)

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

Acts 2:3-4 (NLT)

…What looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

3. It’s important to create space for the Holy Spirit to move.

Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

John 7:37b-39 (NKJV)

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

4. The Holy Spirit was given to empower the church to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere…

Acts 2:17a (NKJV)

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh…
